This summer I am taking 12 credits towards my reading specialist certification. The problem is that those don't start until June 13 which leaves me with a very empty month of May. So being the driven graduate student that I am (or at least pretend to be) I decided to make a goal. Are you ready to hear it? Are you sure? Ok drumroll please. My goal is to read all of the Newbery Medal books by the end of the summer. Then I'm going to blog about them. I have been wanting to start a blog for ages and today I decided to stop the excuses (my life isn't exciting enough, what am I going to talk about, I can't take good pictures) and just do it. So hooray for new beginnings.
My hope is that this blog will be a mix of reflections on the books I am reading, charming anecdotes about my life, pictures of fun experiences (or funny disasters-which in my life is far more likely) and maybe even interviews with some of the amazing people I am privileged to know. The goal is to write every day. I follow several blogs (check them out I think they're great!) and my favorite ones are the ones that are updated everyday.
Wow how time flies when you are writing. I need to head to work. One of the things I love about my job (I work at a music store here in State College) is that if it is not busy I can sit at the front counter and read. Tonight I plan on starting the first of my Newbery medal winners (in no particular order) The Midwife's Apprentice by Karen Cushman. Sometimes I get strange looks when I'm reading kiddy lit behind the counter as I'm dressed in my professional grown up wardrobe. It's as if people want to say to me "don't you know? that's kids stuff"
