About Me

<----This is me.

I am a special education teacher, currently teaching 7th and 8th grade reading in Spring-Ford Area School District.  I love teaching reading because I have always loved to read.  My mom tells me that even when I was a baby I would sit still and listen to a book.

So that leads me to this blog.  It originally started when I was in graduate school (I went to Penn State where I got dual masters degrees.  One in Special Education and another in Curriculum and Instruction as a Reading Specialist).  As you might imagine, getting concurrent masters degrees required a lot of reading..and not the fun kind.  Luckily, Penn State's Paterno Library has the second largest collection of children's literature in the state (second only to the Philly free library) so I decided to take a little bit of time each day to read for fun.

I decided to read all of the Newbery winning books and as a way to chronicle my experience I decided to blog about it.  You can still read all of those original posts, just click on the Newbery books tab.  It was really fun and a great experience but then life happened.

In the chaos of a move, a wedding, a new dog, and the hunt for a permanent job, blogging took a back seat.  Two years later I had a steady job (the one I still have today) and a new problem.  My students and their parents were always asking for book recommendations.  I could always tell them one or two books off the bat, but that wasn't a lasting situation.  Enter the return of the blog.  A fresh layout and a new tagline later the journey continued.  And it's still going today.

Yay for home renovations!

I try to blog at least once a week and I want it to be a resource for my students and their parents, but I never want it to be an additional stress-er in my life.  Reading the books is always fun and somehow I always seem to be able to find the time to write a quick post about what I read.  But don't be surprised if a week goes by with no new post.  As long as it's still fun I will continue to blog about the books I read.  OH, in case you are wondering about my other hobbies I also love singing and playing piano, and biking.

Blogging the books...that's kids stuff
